Our Investment Committee has managed advised portfolios since 2012 for LIFT-Financial clients. Therefore, our team’s discretionary offering builds upon the knowledge and expertise already in place at LIFT and provides an additional investment option for new and existing clients.

The first quarter of 2024, comprising January to March, was a buoyant one for equity markets – with almost all major indices achieving positive returns. Perhaps the most eye-catching performance came from Japan’s Nikkei 225, which finally reached a new all-time high after surpassing the previous record of 38,915.87 – rising +20.63% from 33,464 to 40,369.

The December to February 2024 period showcased a robust performance in the global markets, with most indices achieving positive returns. The S&P 500 was a standout, surging +11.57% with multiple all-time highs notched along the way. In the UK, the FTSE 100 saw modest gains of +2.36, whilst the smaller FTSE 250 enjoyed a +4.50% rally. In Europe, the S&P Euro Plus also benefited from gaining +8.45%, contributing to the positive sentiment observed across major markets. This was predominantly driven by continued disinflation and economic resilience across the West – most significantly in the US.

The period from November to January 2024 was strong for markets, with the majority of major indices attaining positive returns in each of the three months. The S&P 500 rose +15.54% from 4,194 to 4,846, reaching an all-time high of 4,928 at close on 30th January. Similarly, the Nikkei 225 gained +17.59%, rising from 30,859 to 36,287, with the high for the period coming on 22nd January at 36,547.
